First meeting

We first met after a Christmas concert in Jakarta, pre-covid. Our Dads are close and arranged a dinner after the concert (so yes, technically our parents “introduced” us).

We didn’t expect much coming in, but at one point Nadya made a subtle joke - and Daniel caught it, staring back in response with a big smile. That’s when we started to click.

We kept in touch after we went back to the US and the Netherlands. We decided that, given the distance, we would either take things seriously or not at all. We chose the former. It was exciting and challenging. The worst was when one of us would get sick or had a really rough day. But the distance forced us to communicate a lot, and that’s how we built our relationship. Sometimes we would also order food or gifts for each other.

Most interesting date

Believe it or not, we had a date at Hamad International Airport, Qatar. Coming from the US and the Netherlands, we had to buy separate tickets, but we made sure that we transited into the same plane for the second flight. We got airport ramen, strolled around the airport, and sat next to each other on the flight home. We were so happy it worked out - it was a lovely flight!

Closing the distance

After fruitlessly exploring so many options for months, one day we received job offers in Indonesia within hours of each other! That’s when we immediately planned on closing the distance. By the middle of 2021, we were both home.

Engagement

On the 25th of September, Daniel proposed to Nadya in Kebun Raya Bogor. She said yes! The rest is history. (By the way, some of the pictures in the gallery were from the actual engagement itself)
